Welcome to the Close to My Heart
Annual Inspirations New Product Blog Hop!

This hop I am following {Cat Nowak's Blog.}   We have 25 Close to My Heart Consultants participating in this Annual Inspirations New Product Blog Hop. If you lose your place while traveling through our blog hop, the complete list of participants can be found here.

We have a W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L new catalog that was just released and I must show what I created.  In this wonderful catalog, we have a new Cricut Collection called You are Here.

It is supposed to be a travel cartridge, but I have found it to be SO much more!  Wanna have a peek?  Here is a link to the handbook.

I decided I needed to design a special card for my August card classes.  I really loved the Volkswagon Bug and it brought back such wonderful memories of my teen years living near the beach in Southern California.  My first boyfriend has a gold VW Bug and we were really something traveling along the Pacific Coast Highway, enjoying the sun and the beach.

So here is my card.
I just had to incorporate the sunburst overlay from our Cricut Artbooking collection and check out our new two tone cardstock.  The Crystal Blue for the sky was a bit darker than I wanted, but when I turned over the other side, it was perfectly clear sky blue.  Love it!

Do you have a Cricut and want to make this card?  It is a 5" x 7" card, so cut a piece of White Daisy cardstock 10" x 7" and then score the 10" side down the middle, giving you a 5" x 7" card.

And here are the sizes for the other cuts.

I used  these brand new stamp sets:  B1565 - A New Adventure and C1684 Inked with Love.  I also used a retiring stamp set (better get it fast!) Z3336 No Worries - Scrapbooking.  It comes with Thin Cuts and is retiring on August 31st.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  I would love for you to show me a little love by leaving me a comment and then please go to our next artist, {Priscilla Gotham's Blog} and see what she has made with this adorable stamp set.

August SOTM Blog Hop - School Year

Welcome to the August Stamp of the Month
Blog Hop!

This month I am following {Melissa Robinson's Blog.}   We have 21 Close to My Heart Consultants participating in this month’s Stamp of the Month Blog Hop. If you lose your place while traveling through our blog hop, the complete list of participants can be found here.

The August Stamp of the Month is entitled School Year (S1708) (Set of  9).   Here is a picture of this stamp set:

I am a super busy Close to My Heart Consultant, so I try to create artwork that  can use in my classes or that I need myself.  I was in a time crunch and found that the August Stamp of the Month stamp set worked great to make a card I needed for my grandson.

I have a few special touches I want to tell you about.  The gold shimmer dotted piece came from the new Better Together Complements.  Complements work great with cards as well as scrapbooking!  The stripes in the patterned paper (from our new Basic Fundamentals collection) were Charcoal and I needed them to be black.  So I colored over them with our Black Shin Han marker and then added some gold shimmer with our Gold Shimmer Brush (wish you could see it in the photo).  I cut the stars with our Basic Stars Thin cuts.  The frame for the sentiment is stamped and fussy cut and is from the August Stamp of the Month.  I stamped the frame onto White Daisy and then cut out the middle and stamped the sentiment onto it, masking "School" and embossing Army instead.  With this technique, you can use this for the first day of anything, making it very versatile.

Here is my card.

My grandson, Austin, enlisted into the Army today.  We have become a military family.  With each generation, more of us choose to serve in the military.  My father was in the Air Force when it first became the Air Force.  I was an Air Force wife and my kids were Air Force brats.  My daughter married a man in the Air Force and my granddaughters were Air Force brats.  My son has served 15 years in the Navy.  I have another grandson and granddaughter in the Air Force.  And now Austin has joined the Army.

In my group of papercrafters  if you send someone a homemade card and they throw it away, they are not "card worthy".  However, if they keep it and treasure it for all of the thought and love you have put into it, they are indeed "card worthy".

Austin is "card worthy".  He has kept every card I have ever made him. So I wanted to make him a very special card to commemorate his first day at the Army.

I masked "School" in the First Day of School sentiment and embossed the gold Army.  I googled the colors for the Army and found out they are Gold, Pewter, Black, and White.  How cool that we now have gold foil paper and one of our new colors is Pewter.  I was able to stay true to these colors and make a very special card for a very special grandson.

I gave Austin the card today.  He loved it.  And then he handed it to his mother for safe-keeping because he was afraid it would get ruined in Basic Training.  Not exactly what I had in mind.  Guess I will be making Austin another card to send to him in Basic - one that he keeps with him.

Austin is the blonde in the lighter blue shirt.

My family and I just before Austin got on the bus to go to Fort Benning.

The August Stamp of the Month Stamp Set can be purchased for $17.95 or if you purchase $50 in CTMH products, you can add this stamp set to your order for an additional $5.  This stamp set is only available between August 1 – August 31, 2017.
